SSSA news on mapping QTL of traits related to photosynthesis efficiency

The team of Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna is finalizing and testing the analytics pipeline for mapping QTL. The idea behind this pipeline is to streamline and standardize QTL mapping within CAPITALISE.

The overall performance of the procedure was recently assessed by working on the maize Multi-Parental Population (maize-MPP) together with the teams of the University of Cambridge and IPK Gatersleben which provided data collected during the first round of experiments.

The analytical approach showed great flexibility and good overall performance in terms of time, memory and computational power required.

The first attempts of mapping QTL of traits related to photosynthesis efficiency using data of the maize-MPP showed promising outcomes, that seem to be stable across high resolution data collected in field trials in Cambridge and data measured at the high-throughput phenotyping platform at IPK.

Recently, the research team of Cambridge University visited the team of Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa. During their stay they collaborated at the development of the QTL mapping procedure that was also contributed remotely from the team of IPK.

The team of SSSA and ARARI successfully completed the reproduction of the barley multi parental population (barley-MPP) in Ethiopia. The teams are now ready to start the characterization of the materials during the coming season.
